GRANTS PASS APPOINTMENTS
We Are a VITA Site Sponsored by UCAN
Starting in 2023 for Tax Year 2022, Grants Pass will be a VITA* site sponsored by United Communication Action Network (UCAN).
With fewer volunteers, we continue to have limited appointments. Please do not make an appointment until you have received all of your tax forms from employers, banks, government, retirement, etc.
Two types of Appointments
We will have two types of appointments. Please make an appointment with the type you will feel comfortable with.
1 Visit In-person
Similar to all of our appointments prior to COVID. Longer appointment that may involve waiting for a preparer.
- You will bring proof of identity, all of your forms, a completed Intake Booklet, last year’s return to your appointment
- A certified preparer will interview you and prepare your return
- A second certified preparer will review your return
- You will go home with a printed copy of your return
These appointments will last approximately 45-60 minutes or more.
Note that all taxpayers on the return (taxpayer and spouse if any) must either be present for both the interview and the pickup appointments or come with a Power of Attorney. The IRS form 2848 is available here and a sample.
2 Visit - Interview/Pickup
Similar, but not identical to our “Drop Off” appointments of previous years. Up to 30-minute interview appointment (inside – not your car) with later pick up.
- You will bring proof of identity, all of your forms, a completed Intake Booklet, last year’s return to your appointment
- A certified preparer will interview you and scan your forms
- You will go home with your forms
- An offsite certified preparer will prepare your return from the scan and may call you with questions
- An offsite second certified preparer will review your return, again from the scans, and call you to pick up your return
- You come back to our site to pick up your return
The interview appointment will last approximately 30 minutes, pickup will last 5-10 minutes.
Note that all taxpayers on the return (taxpayer and spouse if any) must either be present for both the interview and the pickup appointments or come with a Power of Attorney. The IRS form 2848 is available here and a sample.
* The IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. The VITA program has operated for over 50 years. VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.
